Senior Scientist - Personal Care at Young Living Essential Oils

Job Overview

Job Summary Young Living requires a candidate that has an Advanced Degree in Science and experienced in formulating natural products. We require someone that can formulate personal care products, develop natural preservative systems, emulsion system, natural surfactant system and develop finished products through all stages of concept, prototype, scale-up and production. The ideal candidate will work cross functionally with other teams for product launch, reformulations, product registrations, and product support.

Requirements:

• Independently formulate and execute product development from bench to production scale for new products and product improvements.
• Identify and develop research programs to drive cost optimization through formulation and processing efficiencies.
• Create prototypes for product development initiatives and work closely with contract manufacturers R&D team to perform research scale up’s.
• Lead the innovation in hair care, oral care, body care, and natural products.
• Work closely with regulatory team for product registrations overseas.
• Draft initial formulation for each new product keeping the product cost and manufacturing feasibility in mind throughout the development process.
• Develop new formulations, optimize/reformulate existing products and support transfer for scale-up.
• Work with general direction, broad policies and goals with minimum supervision.

• Explore physical and chemical properties of new raw materials through experimentation.

• Develop a close functional relationship with team to review projects and contribute information and suggestions regarding product-processing requirements.
• Demonstrate expertise with Microsoft products and other applicable software or applications.

Qualifications:

• Minimum of BA or BS in chemistry, chemical engineering or equivalent science
• Advanced degree in physical science is preferred
• Proven track record in formulations
• 5-7 years of formulations experience preferred
• Explore physical and chemical properties of new raw materials through experimentation
• Ideal background includes experience in both formulation chemistry and raw material application chemistry
• Knowledge of chemistry, skin biology, raw materials and emulsion technology are desired
• Must have strong problem solving, interpersonal, teamwork, project management and communication skills (oral & written)
• Entrepreneurial attitude with the ability to conceptualize and apply innovative solutions
• Must be a self-starter with a high level of initiative
• Must be flexible, able to handle multiple projects simultaneously and work well under pressure
