Formulation Chemist

Scentsy, Inc. is currently seeking a Formulation Chemist to join our team! Located in Meridian, Idaho, which has been voted as one of the best places to live in the US, Scentsy offers an 80 acre campus with walking paths, a gourmet dining area, a fully equipped fitness center, and a state-of-the-art green facility.

Essential Responsibilities:

• Develop and improve Scentsy's personal care and home care formulas
• Formulate and facilitate the development of innovative products, line extensions, and product improvements in personal care and home care products in line with company objectives
• Identify and maintain external partnerships to develop new technologies and conceptual ideas in personal care and home care
• Provide technical support to manufacturing on new and existing products
• Assist QA(Quality Assurance)/QC(Quality Control) in development of test methods for raw materials and finished products
• Create specifications for raw materials and laboratory, scale-up, and production formulation batches
• Assist with production testing
• Assist with evaluation of new product, packaging, and equipment needs
• Coordinate stability, microbiological, safety, and efficacy tests
• Maintain constant cross-functional communication with Legal, Research and Development (R&D), and Scentsy Manufacturing teams
• Maintain laboratory order and cleanliness


• 3+ years of formulation and production experience
• 2+ years of experience in development of personal care products
• B.S. degree in Chemistry or Chemical Engineering Expectations
• Adhere to all established procedures, policies, and safety rules as outlined by the Company
• Expected to work 40 hours per week; some overtime may be required
• Occasional weekend work may be required
• Occasional travel may be required up to 5% of the time

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

• Strong knowledge of formulations for personal care and home care products that can deliver a fragrance experience
• Knowledge of laundry products
• Ability to work in a fast-paced laboratory environment, working safely with laboratory equipment, chemicals, and manufacturing raw materials, including fragrances
• Laboratory background in analytical instrumentation with working knowledge in gas chromatography, rheometers, and FT-IR (Fourier Transform Infrared), a plus
• Clear and direct written and verbal communication skills
• Ability to lift up to 40 lbs
• Ability to determine smell and color hues
• Occasionally works around moving machinery and equipment
• Frequently exposed to strong scents and raw chemicals
• Ability to frequently stand, have both arms and legs accessible, and push and pull
• Ability to occasionally bend, sit, squat, crawl, walk, and reach above shoulder level
• Ability to frequently read, comprehend, write, perform complex mathematic calculations, communicate orally, and reason and analyze
• Ability to work at a computer station and view a computer screen for extended periods of time
• Working knowledge of computers and all applicable software including Microsoft Office Suite
